You're drained, tapped out, have little energy to give others. We’ve all been there. Usually, after a little break you revive and step back up to the plate but if not... You may be suffering from Compassion Fatigue, also known as a Secondary Traumatic Stress Disorder. This term has replaced the more familiar term "burn-out." It refers to a physical, emotional and spiritual fatigue or exhaustion that takes over a person and causes a decline in his or her ability to experience joy or to feel and care for others. Compassion fatigue is a one-way street, in which individuals are giving out a great deal of energy and compassion to others over a period of time, yet aren’t able to get enough back to reassure themselves that the world is a hopeful place. It’s this constant outputting of compassion and caring over time that can lead to these feelings. The first acupuncture point we stimulate in the ear is the sympathetic point. The sympathetic system controls your body’s fight or flight response, when dealing with stress. If you have been chronically stressed the sympathetic system often stuck or shut down. Stimulating this point will help reset your sympathetic system and your body will be able to respond effectively to situations. The next point, shenmen will help calm the body and mind. The third point is kidney, in Chinese medicine; kidney is the base of your original chi (energy) or genetic constitution. Stimulating this point will help reminded and reinforce your body and mind of your true self. Next we use Liver point which helps release frustration and anger while strengthening courage. The last point used is lung, which encourages letting go and breathing easier. The results are subtle, you may notice you are sleeping better; you may have more energy or more patience. The treatments are cumulative. The more often you receive a treatment the deeper the response and the longer the results will last. There are no drugs, side effects, no talk therapy no conscious effort is needed. It is an opportunity to let the amazing power of the body and mind to heal itself with the guidance of acupuncture needles.
