The purpose of Cosmetic Acupuncture
is to create a younger and more vibrant appearance.
A Cosmetic Acupuncture treatment involves the insertion of acupuncture needles into the face and/or neck and/or body in order to reduce the visible signs of aging. It works by increasing qi and blood circulation to the area being needled which results in less wrinkles, smoother skin tone, tighter skin and increased elasticity. From the Western medical viewpoint, needling can cause cells to produce more collagen and elastin, reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. Cosmetic acupuncture is not a surgical procedure and therefore is safer, healthier and less expensive than modern cosmetic procedures.
In receiving cosmetic acupuncture you may experience some of the following changes:
• Elimination or reduction of fine lines and wrinkles
• Decreased puffiness around the eyes
• Firming of sagging skin
• Improved muscle tone
• Even skin tone and improved luster of your complexion
What to expect:
Your first visit will include an assessment of your skin health in regards to Chinese Medicine and the development of a treatment plan. Depending on your skin condition and the results you expect to achieve, you may be scheduled twice a week for 5 weeks or once a week for 10 weeks. After the initial 10 treatment regimen, your skin will be reassessed and you may benefit from another 10 week regimen or a maintenance schedule will be tailored to your needs.
Before treatment:
• A couple days before your first treatment, have a facial. This will help cleanse the skin and prepare it for needling.
• Always remove all makeup/foundation/treatment products before treatment. You may bring makeup to reapply after.
• Your skin will be cleansed with a skin toner or alcohol to remove any dirt/oil prior to needling. If you have sensitive skin, please be sure to tell the acupuncturist.
Treatment:
Small needles are shallowly inserted into various points on your face, neck, scalp or body. Each treatment takes from 60-90 minutes.
On rare occasions, bruising may occur. If this does occur, arnica facial oil may be applied to your face to minimize bruising.
